We are at a time in history where the human strength is being tested like never before. If we never needed strength before, we sure do need it now. I am not just talking about physical strength, I’m talking about an inner strength that goes deep beyond our natural abilities. There are many ways to receive this strength but I want to focus on the spoken strength because it is the quickest way to be strengthened. There are many examples in the Bible of people receiving strength through a spoken word. Daniel was one such person who received strength when the angel told him to “be strong.”
“Oh man greatly beloved, fear not! peace be to you; ‘be strong’ yes ‘be strong’! So when he spoke to me I was strengthened. (Daniel 12:19).
I find it really interesting that just mere words were able to strengthen a person in a moment of great terror (Daniel 12: 7). Words are very powerful, you may just be a few words away from all the strength that you need. We are living in a time when great terror has come upon the world because of a relatively unknown virus, wreaking havoc on our way of life and causing death and destruction, yet I hear the Lord saying to His people “be strong this is not the end”.
There is a certain strength that can only come through spoken words, you were not born with it, it is not acquired by what you eat or drink or by something you did, it only comes by what you hear and what you believe. Daniel said the angel told him to be strong and he became strong. It is as simply as that, just receive the word that the messenger of God gives you. Daniel had the same options that we do, he could have asked the angel, How can you tell me to be strong at a time like this? Don’t you not see what is happening in our world? What are you going to do about it? Instead Daniel simple received the strength that was given to him through the words that the angel spoke and he was strengthened.
Strength for the Battle
Sometimes God does not take us out of the battle but He gives us strength to fight. I do not know why God chooses to remove some threats from us while allowing us to walk through others but I do know that He gives strength to the weak. (Isaiah 40:29). I know He will strengthen you to fight every battle that you are facing. The scripture says that His strength is made perfect in your weakness, it means that when you are feeling at your weakest God is at His strongest in you, you are stronger than you think. This virus is an attack of Satan on humanity, but God is with us and He is commanding us to be strong and to wage war against this enemy. This is spiritual warfare and we are going to win but we will have casualties of war, therefore the Lord is commanding us to be strong. The amount of loss we suffer can be limited by the strength we exert in resisting the enemy. We must be strong to resist the enemy.
Daniel was on his face fasting and praying for 21 days, it seems like nothing was happening. What he did not know was that the very moment he set his heart to pray the angel was dispatched with the answer to his prayer but there was opposition to the answer to his prayer. There was a great warfare in the heavenly just to prevent Daniel from receiving the answer to his prayer. I believe that we may not be seeing the answer to our prayer because there is a great warfare going on that we cannot see. We must strengthen our resolve to pray and seek the Lord. Opposition may cause you to feel like God has not heard your prayers but not so, remember that we are fighting against an unseen enemy and there are many aspects of the warfare that we do not understand. Prayer is a powerful weapon that can thwart the plans Satan. When we see nothing happening it’s not time to shrink back in doubt and fear but it’s time to bombard the heavens with prayer. Our prayers have the power to breakthrough every line of the enemy’s defenses. It’s time crossover “no man’s land” the enemy occupied this space long enough. Set your face like flint against the opposition be determine like Daniel to pray until something happens.
The spoken strength that I’m talking about is best demonstrated in Joshua. He was tasked with leading the children of Israel into the promised land filled with giants and by their own report they were like grasshoppers in the sight of the giants that lived in the land. Just the sight of the giants cause the children of Israel to grow faint and weary. Can you imagine being Joshua leading an army of grasshoppers to face giants? Joshua needed the kind of strength that was runs deeper than his natural understanding to lead Israel through the peril of facing giants that were far greater in number than they were and much stronger than they were physically. Joshua knew that natural strength would not be able to give them the victory. He didn’t know how God was going to give them the victory but he made up his mind to trust God. We may not see our way of this battle but we must remain steadfast in our faith trusting in the mighty God of heaven to lead us through this perilous time. We must remain strong.
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
The Lord commanded Joshua to be strong because He knew what Joshua would face upon crossing Jordan. The Lord’s command was not a command that sent Joshua searching for strength so that he could become strong. The moment that God spoke to Joshua and told him to be strong, he was strengthened. God created the heavens and the earth through speech, He spoke everything into existence therefore when He told Joshua to be strong, Joshua became strong. We have no doubt that Joshua possessed supernatural inner strength because the conquest of Canaan was not humanly possible with such a small army.
Just like Joshua, The Lord is commanding us to be strong because He knows what we are facing. You are reading this message because the Lord wants to strengthen you for the days ahead. There are some rough days ahead of us but we will survive we are not all going to die, however we must be strong in order to survive this attack. Do not fear because it takes away your ability to successfully fight the virus. When our minds are occupied with fear we cannot analyze the situation accurately and take the necessary actions to win the war against Coronavirus. You must be strong and courageous, it doesn’t matter what it looks like our God is fighting for us and our enemy is defeated.
The Prince of This World
I find it intriguing that the virus is called Corona which means crown, I had a dream a few months ago about a demon that called himself ‘crown prince’, He quickly enters people’s body and hide inside them. This Coronavirus is acting just like ‘crown prince’ the prince of this world, intimidating people, destroying lives, ravaging the worlds economies, disrupting our way of life, leaving behind nothing but a trail of death and destruction. We all know who ‘the prince of this world’ is because Jesus told us who he was. When Jesus was about to be crucified He told his disciples that “the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. (John 14:30). Jesus was about to go through the most terrible experience of his life at the hands of the ‘prince’ of this world yet the Father did not stop it, instead He strengthened him to face off with the ‘prince’ of this world. You know the story, Jesus conquered the ‘prince of this world’ on Calvary’s cross and emerge as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. If you are in Christ Coronavirus is not your prince, Jesus is your King and He has already defeated death, you therefore do not need to be afraid, your victory is assured. Coronavirus has no hold on you because it has no hold on Jesus. Get up and fight the good fight of faith. Be strong in the Lord and fight like a mighty warrior, because in Christ you a mighty warrior. You cannot get victory without fighting, you cannot be an overcomer if you never overcome nothing, you cannot get a testimony without a test. Jesus could never be King of Kings if He did not endure the cross. The world is under siege to Coronavirus but the Lord is giving you strength to fight and break down this stronghold. Joshua had to fight, he did not receive strength so that he could walk around the gym and flex his muscles, He had to fight.
Joshua was one of the original twelve spies that were sent out to spy out the land of Canaan. (Num 14:6-9). When the people’s heart grew faint, Joshua trusted the Lord to do what He said he would do without regard for the numerous giants that they were facing. Joshua drew strength from knowing that the God that he serve goes before him and fight every battle for him. Joshua drew strength from knowing that the giants are relying on their natural strength but the children of Israel will get the victory by relying on the supernatural strength of God. You cannot rely on your strength, the arm of flesh will fail because you are not fighting a natural enemy. You need the strength of the Lord to win this battle.
Sometimes doubt can cause us to procrastinate and allow the enemy to gain more ground on us than he should. We doubt because the battle plan may not make sense to us and we just cant’ see how God is going to do it. When Joshua faced Jericho, a strong and fortified city, he was not moved by what he saw, he just kept on following the directions of the Lord regardless of the presence of the giants. Can you imagine what it must have been like for Joshua to mount the ark of the covenant on the shoulders of the priests and tell them to march around the wall of Jericho not once but seven times? To the natural eyes that was the most foolish battle plan. Would you do it? What could possible happen as a result of marching around the walls of Jericho? remember they did not read the end of the story like we did. They did not know that the walls would all come crashing down. All the inhabitants of Jericho were watching, there is a lot of ‘what ifs’ that comes to mind. What if the army of Jericho had taken up their arrows and began shooting at them? What if the army of Jericho had open up the gates and engaged them in warfare? What if Jericho had called for their allies to come and help them? What if Joshua didn’t really hear from God? What if Joshua decided that this battle plan makes no earthly sense and decided not to do it? What if nothing happened after they march around the walls? What if the plan failed? Joshua had no guarantee in this battle plan would work, He didn’t know what the outcome would look like but he knew that somehow they would win because the Lords strong and mighty was fighting for them. We need to be like Joshua and trust in the strength of the Lord even though our enemy seems to be greater than us. Obey the Lord even when the battle plan makes no sense. Coronavirus is not greater than the God that we serve. It has been said that if you hold a penny close enough to your eye it will eclipse the sun. Do not let this Coronavirus eclipse the great big God that you serve. Draw strength through prayer, draw strength through His word and be strong and fight back, be determine to win this battle.
Victory preceded by Defeat
Sometimes victory can be preceded by defeat. Joshua faced a devastating defeat in the battle of Ai because there was sin in the camp of Israel. Defeat has a way of making you question what God said, Joshua, as strong as he was bowed down to the ground and question God about this defeat, clearly he was not expecting defeat. God revealed to Joshua that there was sin in the camp. There can be no victory where sin is present because sin is the enemy that we are fighting. When there is sin in the camp the Lord cannot be present. He is a Holy God and by nature cannot be present in sin. Just like oil and water do not mix, sin cannot mix with holiness. When His presence is removed from us, we have no protection from the enemy. It takes great strength to admit sin but if you find yourself fighting a losing battle that you know you should easily win, do what Joshua did, go to God in prayer. Ask him to reveal any hidden sins, repent from it and go back and fight because you can still win. After Joshua took care of the sin issue, he went back and fought against the same enemy and conquered them. (Joshua 7-8). Joshua, knew that losing a battle was not in the plan so he went to God about it. It may look like we are being defeated by Coronavirus but defeat is not apart of the plan of God for your life. Coronavirus maybe the ‘crown prince’ but Jesus is still King if Kings. The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle, He is the King of glory and He is fighting for you.
It amazes me that this virus was gain the amount of momentum that it now has and even more amazing that America seems to be taking the brunt of it. As a nation we may need to examine ourselves, there is no doubt that sin is in all nations of the world but have we turn our backs on God? Is there innocent bloodshed in our nation? Is there perversion in our land? If we are calling upon a Holy God for protection when our hearts are far from him, will He hear us? There is no doubt that we as a nation have done some abominable things but even so the Lord says,
“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:13-14).
Coronavirus is a pestilence and it can be stopped if we repent from our sins. Now I that not everyone will agree with this battle plan but what if it works? What’s there to lose by trying it? Let us humble ourselves before our God, turn away from sin, seek the Lord for forgiveness. He will hear from heaven and heal our nation because His promises are the same yesterday today and forever.
After defeating Ai, Joshua was faced with another seemly impossible battle at Gilgal because five kings combined forces against him and his small grasshopper army. The battle raged on for hours until Joshua commanded the sun to stand still and it did for duration of a whole day. Can you imagine fighting from sun up to sun down? No rest in sight and just when the night was about to fall and you may have had a chance to get rest somewhere in a trench on the battlefield, the commander of your army arrests the sun so that the day was prolonged so that the battle could continue. Joshua was fighting five different nations in one day but he had a strong mind completely focused on victory. It doesn’t matter how intense the battle became Joshua had no intentions of quitting until he completely annihilated his enemies. His divine commander gave him a command to, be strong, so when intense warfare came Joshua pulled on that inner strength and tap into his supernatural resources to fight his warfare. Some battles require great endurance, its not that you are not winning but the battle is very intense. We tend to give up when the battle becomes too long and tedious and that is why you need this supernatural inner strength. You can tap into the supernatural resources of heaven and conquer the enemies that you are facing. It doesn’t matter what enemy you are facing right now, the Lords word to you is to “be strong”.
The Invisible Enemy
We are fighting an invisible enemy and we therefore need invisible strength and strategy. This virus is a formidable force and it seems impossible to overcome but like Joshua, if we put our trust firmly in the Lord, we will be strengthened and God will give us the victory. When the medical professionals and the government are telling us to pray it means they do not see a natural solution in sight. Our only hope is the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, the immortal, invisible only wise God. This virus might be invisible to our naked eyes but it’s not invisible to the almighty God. It is time to turn our eyes upon the Lord, it’s time to be strong in our faith, it’s time to brace ourselves and be strong. King Jehoshaphat was facing a huge army and he told the Lord I do not have the strength to defeat this great army but my eyes are upon you. As he turned his eyes to seek the Lord, he received a strategy and God answered his prayer and his enemies were defeated. 2(Chronicle 20: 12). We must pray that God reveal the hidden things concerning this pandemic and gives us strategies to overcome it. One of the reasons we must pray is, we sometimes suffer unnecessary defeat all because we lack knowledge. Joshua suffered defeat at Ai because he had no knowledge that there was sin in the camp of Israel. When we pray hidden things are revealed and we are better able position ourselves to annihilate our enemies.
You can access your supernatural strength and resources through the word of God spoken and written. A person who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. (I Cor 14:3). Some times God will send a messenger to minister strength to you, it may be a friend, it may be a pastor, it may even be a total stranger and it may be written word of encouragement as long as you receive it you will be strengthened. Don’t take it for granted when someone takes the time to encourage you to ‘be strong’ especially at a time when you need to be strong. The words they speak to you may be the very words that strengthened you. Let us encourage one another to; Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:10-12). Be Strong!!
There are some generational promises waiting for you to possess but there are some things you need to know before you can securely grab hold of the promise. You need know what the promise is, you need know your God, you need to know your tribe, and you must fight to possess it. I find it really intriguing that in today’s day and age Israel and Palestine are still fighting to possess the same land that the Lord gave to Israel thousands of years ago. I believe part of the reason that they are still wrestling for property is because there were some unconquered territory from the days of Joshua that the Lord gave to the children of Israel while still occupied with the inhabitants of the land. I also believe they are still wrestling accord to the word of the Lord that says;
But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live.
Just because the Lord promises you something, it does not mean that you sit back and just wait for it to happen. You have a part to play in possessing your promise. You may have to fight giants to possess your promise but know for sure that Lord fights for his own. He will give you strength, courage and strategy to fight and He will be with you in the fight. Some of us are still fighting to possess the promise because we have not dealt with the inhabitants of the land. We are still fighting fears, rejections, failures, self-pity, abuse, loss etc. but God says 2020 is your year to drive out the inhabitants and possess the promise, the waiting period is over, the maturation process is complete. You had to go through what you went through so that the arm of God could be revealed to you. Do not despise the process because it you cannot possess the promise without going through the process.
No promise without Process
I’m particularly drawn to this particular passage of scripture as I contemplate on what it takes to possess the promise.
Joshua 14: 6-15 Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him: “You know the word which the Lord said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me in Kadesh Barnea.
I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart. Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God.
So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old.
As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.”
And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. And the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim). Then the land had rest from war.
Give me my promise
Caleb was one of twelve spies that Moses sent out to spy out the Land of Canaan in the above passage of scripture we find Caleb at a place called Gilgal. Caleb saw all the wonders of God, he ate manna in the wilderness, He crossed over Jordan on dry land, he saw the walls of Jericho came down, He saw the sun stood still at Ai, he saw five Kings mightier and stronger than Israel defeated at Gilgal. Caleb saw it all. Now, Joshua was old and advance in years Joshua (13:1) and there was still much land to conquer, so God told him to divide up the land. “Now therefore, divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.” Josh 13:7
As Joshua began to do what the Lord commanded him to do Caleb, spoke up and said, Joshua, I know the Lord told you to divide up ‘this here land’ but don’t you forget that Moses promised me that I would receive the land that my feet walked on when he sent me to spy out the land. You see, it was time for Caleb to possess his promise, when he saw that it was time to divide up the land there is now way he was going to sit back and watch everyone possess their promise. He had fought for this promise in more battles than we care to count. Caleb came to cash a 45 years old check, I can see him carrying that promise in his bosom for 45 years, waiting for the day when he would finally be able to come in and possess his promise.
Caleb watched his counterparts died in the wilderness and did not possess their promise but he was not willing to die and not possess the promise, so at eighty-five years old He said to Joshua. I know you are old and advance in years, I don’t know how much longer you are going to be with us but I not ready to die without receiving my promise. God made me a promise and he is not a man that he should lie. He will not promise and not fulfill. If he spoke it, it must happen. I believe that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the Land of the living so as you are dividing up this land, give me my promise. Yes, I know that there are some giants in there but I am a giant slayer, those giants can’t stand before the God that dried up the red sea, the God that fed us manna in the wilderness, the God that cause the flood waters of the Jordan to recede, the God that cause the walls of Jericho to come down, the God that caused the sun to standstill, come on Joshua, you were there, you heard the promise now give me my land. You might be ready to die but I can’t die until I possess this promise. You might be advance in years and not able to go out and fight as before but at 85 years old I’m ready to slay a whole nation of Giants because I have a God that goes before me and He never lose a battle. Joshua, give me my promise, I have fought for it and labored for it and it’s the only thing that is keeping me alive. Give me my promise.
Wait for the Promise
Like Caleb, I believe that you have received a promise from God because the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off; for all whom the Lord our God will call.“ (Acts 2: 39) I believe like Caleb you will possess every place upon which the sole of your feet have trodden, if you follow the Lord. It may take awhile but you will possess it. It took 45 years for Caleb to cash in on the promise but he knew the his promise was safe in the hands of God. How long have you been waiting on your promise? Have you given up waiting on the promise? For a mother out there God promise that you wayward child will be saved but you have yet to see a sign of change, sometimes your faith began to waver and you wonder did you really hear from God. Yes you did! but there is a process and sometimes processes takes time.
Some of you receive promises of healing but like the women with the issue of blood it has been twelve years and still no healing, like that lame man at the pool of Bethesda thirty- eight years and still no healing, like the woman with the spirit of infirmity eighteen years and still no healing. Some of you even have to fight wounded because you still have not healed from the last battle you fought before entering into a new one. You won the battle but you are wounded, wounded from rejection, failures, depression and addictions but something deep down on the inside keeps reminding you of the promise. Something down on the inside of you keeps telling you don’t give up, don’t quit, you will reap if you do not faint.
Wait for the promise you will not die! Don’t you know that promises of God are yes and amen? Do you not know that he promised to give you beauty for Ashes? Do you not know that He promised to heal you from all your disease? Do you not know that he promised to give you houses you didn’t build? Do you not know that he promised that your sons and daughters will rise up and call you bless? Do you not know that He promise that wealth of the wicked is laid up for the righteous? Do you not know that righteous shall live by faith? Do you not know that the Lord your God gives you power to get wealth? So why are you not living in the promises of God? Some of us are not living in the Promises of God because we do not know who we are, and we do not know what the promises are.
Who Are You?
Caleb knew who he was, the Bible says he was from the tribe of Judah and he was a Kennizite. Scholars and Theologians debated whether or not he was really from the tribe of Judah or just a Kennizite. He could be both but one thing is for certain he had a promise. He would have receive an inheritance either way because he fought for Israel and followed the Lord with all his heart but Caleb was not interested in any old piece of land on the back woods of Israel. He knew where his feet had trodden. Caleb was a man with a promise, it doesn’t matter what his tribe was because he had a promise.
Your identity can only be found in Christ, because there is no other way to inherit the promise. In Christ you are a new creation and old things are passed away. In Christ you are royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God’s special people whom he has called out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9). Romans 8:16 also, says that you are joint heirs with Christ; you are sons and daughters of God. Your identity is in Christ and in Christ you have access to the promises of God. In Christ you have promises of healing, in Christ you are promise freedom from the burden of sin, because He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquity, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). Knowing your identity helps you to know your tribe.
Know your Tribe
So what if you didn’t receive a specific promise like Caleb did? Know your tribe! If you don’t know your tribe you will not know what your promise is. Your tribe gives you identity, your tribes it gives you purpose, your tribe gives you stability. Who is your tribe? Are you from the tribe of Judah? Are you from the tribe of Levites? Are you from the tribe of Benjamin or Naphtali? Are you from the tribe of Simeon? Are you a stranger in the land? It’s important to know your tribe because you will know where you belong because you will become frustrated trying to possess another tribes inheritance.
I almost felt sorry for the tribe of Levites because they did not receive any portion of the land. “But to the tribe of Levi Moses had given no inheritance; the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as He had said to them. (Josh 13:33). If you don’t know that you are from the tribe of Levi you may be wondering why you didn’t get an inheritance. You may have to watch your family and friends receives their inheritance but your name is not called. You may watch someone else receive the thing that you prayed and fasted for but you didn’t get it and you wonder. Lord why have you forsaken me? Didn’t I eat manna in the wilderness and Lord you know I did not complain like those other tribes, Lord I followed you wholeheartedly, I did waver in my faith, so Lord, where is my portion? I hear the Lord say “I am your portion,” “all that I have is yours,” “I am your inheritance”. I don’t know about you but I would rather have the Lord God almighty as my inheritance. He owns the cattle’s on a thousand hills, He is the creator of everything, I could not ask for a better inheritance.
Jesus was identified as a carpenter because his earthly father Joseph was a carpenter. I just wonder what is in your blood line. Some of you are entrepreneurs. Some of you maybe lawyers and doctors, some of you are priests and kings. Some of you are intercessors, ministers, leaders, elders, evangelist, pastors BUT you do not know who you are, you keep searching for destiny because you do not know your tribe. If you only know who you are you will know what your destiny is BUT you cannot know who you are until you know your God. You cannot find your identity without your creator, after all, He knew you before you was formed in your mother’s womb, you were in him before the foundations of the world was brought forth. He is the one who will lead you and guide you into all truth. He will guide you into the truth about who you are.
Know your God
I have often pondered what kept Caleb so faithful to God, while waiting patiently for 45 years to possess what God said he was going to give him? How many generations had died and did not possess the promise? How many battles did he have to fight? How did he endure year after year with no sign that his promise was still alive? How many giants loomed before him over the years as he waited? How many times did he cry in secret? How many times he almost gave up? How many times did he get overwhelmed and frustrated? How many times did he wonder if he would live to possess the promise? How many times did he have to fight off sickness and disease as he waited?
I believe Caleb held onto that promise and kept his faith because he knew his God. He wholeheartedly followed his God through hail and high water. Caleb experienced God enough to know that He is a good, good God. Caleb was convinced that God is a faithful God. Caleb was convinced that the God of Israel was the one true and living God. Caleb found his purpose in following the Lord. Caleb knew his God fight for him. Caleb knew his God was able to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond anything we could ask or imagine.
Knowing God gives you the strength and courage to possess your promise. Our God is not a God of the unknown but he is a God that is touched by our infirmities, His ears are open to your cry, He is earnestly desire you. You can know him. Just ask him say, Lord God of heaven and earth help me to know you, reveal yourself to me.
You can know and experience God through, prayer, scriptures, fellowship and look for him in the experiences of life. Prayer is like a secret garden that God uses to reveal himself to you. Take some time and talk to the Lord today. Also, read the scriptures and ask the Lord to unlock it’s mysteries to you; you will find God in every page of the Bible. Read His word daily because He is the Word. “In the beginning was the word and the word was God.” (John 1: 1). Another way to know God is to fellowship with other believers, if you hang around people of faith, your faith will grow, and you will learn how other believers mature and grow in their faith. And yet another way to know God is to experience him in your daily life, ask him to show you how He is active in your circumstances. Knowing God gives you the power to possess your promise.
Fight for your promise
Caleb was a man of valor he knew how to fight and he knew that he must fight to possess his promise. He was confident that he was well able to possess it but I suspect this confidence was not in his ability but in his revelation of who God was. He waited forty-five years to possess his promise. While he waited he fought many battles, he fought in the battles at Jericho, AI and Gilgal and he saw God’s hand in the favor of Israel. He knew that there were some battles he could not win if God was not on his side.
Caleb was a man that was comfortable in the fight. Sometimes you have to get comfortable with the fight. Sometimes you will fight giants of fear, doubt, rejections, failures, inefficiencies, anger, frustration, depression, anxiety, confusions but you must get comfortable with the fight. You must understand that the fight might be yours but the battle belongs to the Lord. You must fight with understanding, know that the fight is fixed, and keep your eyes on the Lord. Lean in and listen for His directions as you fight. sometimes he will tell you to wait for the sound in the Mulberry bush, sometimes he will tell you worship, sometimes he will tell you to set an ambush for your enemy, sometimes he will tell you to attack your enemy from behind and sometimes, he will rain hailstones on your enemies and sometimes he just want you to standstill.
If you know that the Lord fights your battles for you, then half then you can say like Caleb, “Let us go up at once and possess the land because we are well able to possess it” (Numbers 13:30)
Lord reveals your promise to me, help me to know you and to know my tribe. Lord, help me to develop the courage, the faith and the patience to possess what you promise me. Help me to know when to fight and when to wait. In Jesus name I pray.
One of my favorite movie is Wonder Woman, as a kid I never paid much attention to super heroes because my childhood was consumed with being my own super hero. Life came at me hard and fast and I had no time for a superhero to swoop in and save the day. I had to be my own super hero and save the day, I had to fight battles a child should never have to fight. A friend of mine invited me to the movies to watch Wonder Woman and I thought I was going to watch an animated movie, didn’t give much thought. That movie impacted me like I never expected it would, my favorite scene is when she crossed over no mans land. They told her she couldn’t do it, they told her, it has never been done before, that was enemy occupied territory, they told her that’s not what they came here to do. What “they” didn’t know was she was “built for this battle and created for this conflict” (Pastor Rod Parsley). Diana, Wonder Woman, knew what was on the inside of her and she knew she was well able to cross no man’s land and possess it like a boss. Isn’t it ironic it was called no mans land because no man was able to cross it but a woman was able to cross it? Yes, I know it just a movie but I believe that God can use anything to speak to his children.
It takes great courage to leave the “safe zone” and crossover the “no mans land” of giants of fear, failure, rejection, sickness and disease, financial lack, depression, self pity, loss, drug addiction, sexual abuse. Some of you are fighting battles that have prevented you from crossing over and possessing the promises of God. You are feeling stuck, frustrated, weary, sick and depressed. You have lost hope, you lost your sense of purpose. You are just about ready to sit down and accept your inability to crossover the no mans land of sickness and defeat , you feel like you will never crossed over and possess what God says you can have, you feel like it’s no use fighting anymore, Why bother praying, why fasting, why worship? Nothing is happening. You have just about given up on God.
The Lord says to tell you that you are stuck for three main reason; your own personal fears, timing and your understanding of his promises. Jacob found himself in this same predicament when he returned from Laban’s house. Jacob ran away from home because he had tricked his brother Esau and robbed him of his birthright and Esau vowed to kill him but Jacob’s father sent him away to the homeland of his mother to finds his future wife. While running away from his brother Esau, Jacob encountered the Lord at Bethel, where he saw angels ascending and descending and the Lord made him a promise that he would be with him and bring him back to his fathers house and give him the very land he was lying on. His uncle Laban tricked him and gave him the wrong daughter in marriage. He changed Jacob’s wages several times but God kept blessing Jacob. After twenty years had passed the Jacob decided that enough was enough and he was going to take his wives and possession and leave. So Jacob ended up at a place call Peniel, He was getting ready to crossed over the Jabbok river and face his brother Esau but fear almost consumed him. He wrestled all night long with an Angel of God and refuse to let him go until He blessed him. The Lord blessed him and changed his name to Israel and Jacob received the courage to crossover and face his brother Esau.
What was it that Jacob was afraid of? Didn’t God give him a promise at Bethel? Didn’t he understand that it was time to possess the promise? Didn’t he understand that if God spoke it, it will be done. We are just like Jacob, we receive a promise from God but we come up on a “no man’s land” situation and fear begin to grip us and our faith begins to shake and shrink to the size of a mustard seed. We can feel in our spirit that the time of fulfillment is upon us but we are afraid to go through what we need to go through to receive the promises of God. For some of you your “no man’s land” maybe sickness, it may a job situation, it maybe a loved one, it maybe pain and and rejection. Whatever your “no man’s land” is God says to tell you that your set time to crossover has come.
2020 is your year to crossover, it is the year of the fulfillment of God’s promise to you. Some of you have been waiting for 20 years to crossover into divine health, prosperity, the presence of God, breakthroughs, generational blessings, and fulfillment of your purpose.
Like Wonder Woman, you know that there is something down on the inside of you strong enough, brave enough and powerful enough to blast through any “no man’s land” but like Jacob you may have to get alone with God and wrestle for the courage to face you fears. If you feel like you can’t face your fears then face your faith in God. Get in a place, a position a posture to seek God’s will for your life. Don’t stop wrestling until He blessed you with enough courage to face the thing that is threatening to destroy your life and family. You may need to dig up those old 20 years old promises and re-examine them because the time to fulfill them has come. The time to cross over your “no man’s land” has come. There is courage available to you through Jesus Christ who has given you the victory over death hell and the grave, He is living on the inside of you and he is fighting for you. If perhaps you are not sure if He is on the inside of you ask him to come in to your heart say,
Lord Jesus, I believe you are the son of God, I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, I believe in your resurrection. Wash me in your blood and cleanse me from all unrighteousness, forgive me of my sins, be my Lord and savior, teach me how to live for you . Amen
If you just prayed that prayer and believe in your heart, you have just been born again and now have on the inside of you the Power that overcomes the world. I encourage you to ask the Lord to help you find the right church to help you learn and grow in your new found faith in Jesus Christ.
If you have been praying and have not been seeing any results, do not give up, there is a set time of favor. Continue to pray but change the way you pray. Identify the thing that is holding you back, is it fear? is it unforgiveness? Is it envy, bitterness, strife? Are you at the right location to crossover? Is it the right time? Where are you? Are you at Laban’s house, place of unfair wages? Are you at Bethel, the place of promise? Are you at Peniel wrestling with God?
If you are unsure ask the Lord to help you find clarity and to give you courage to crossover your no man’s land and possess your promises.
There is a great apostasy happening in the church today. People are falling away from their faith in God, they are giving up on God because they have come to believe that their is no God, there is no Devil, there is no heaven or hell.
II Thess 2:3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day (the return of the Lord) will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,
Why is this happening? How can it be prevented? What will happen to people who renounce their faith in God?
There are many many reasons why this is happening, first it is a spiritual demonic, secondly the testing of your faith and thirdly the lust of the flesh,
The spiritual warfare you are in was never about your health or your possession it was always about your soul. The enemy attacks what you have in the natural to gain access to your soul. His job is to kill to steal and to destroy. One of the reason we are so defeated in this area is because we have become attached to the things of this world. You must understand that the things of this world though precious and necessary for life are not eternal.
We must endeavor to build our faith on things eternal because that is the only thing that is going to last. Yes we need natural things to enjoy while we live and walk the earth but we must never set our hearts upon them. God gives us all things to enjoy and we can enjoy what we have on level we are at. It becomes difficult to enjoy the level we are on because we are always looking for the next big shiny object and refuse to enjoy what we have in front us.
When you come under attack from the enemy this is no time for you to turn away from God. This is a time for you draw closer to God than ever before. He is your shield and hiding place, He is your refuge and your strength, He is your shield and rampart. He will cover you in the midst of the storm.
When you are going through a storm this is no time to abandon ship. This is a time for you to dig your heels in and activate your faith, speak to your storm and let your storm know that you know the God of the storm and the wind and the waves still obey him.
I live in Dallas TX and just a few weeks ago a monster of storm came squalling through in the middle of the night. I was awakened by this terrible squall outside my window, I got up looked outside and it was horrendous. I prayed and laid back down then I was awaken half an hour later, now I’m annoyed because I’m tired and want to sleep. I got up looked out that window again and began to speak to that storm. I bind Tornadoes from touching down near me and or even in my neighborhood l. I declare that no lives will be lost in this storm and went back to sleep and slept until morning. Several Tornadoes did touch down that night and extensive damages were done but none touched down in my neighborhood and the greatest miracle of all no lives were lost. You may say that was just coincidence but I call it the power of prayer. I call it speaking to my storms.
How does this apply to your personal life? You may be going through a tough situation, illness, financial needs, family issues, job issues but I’m here to tell you if you activate your faith it will work for you. Speak to it!! Take it to God in prayer. Ask a friend to pray with you. Do not roll over and play dead for the enemy. Have faith in God!! Your faith is in the wrong place take back and put it in the Lord. Stop believing that the Devil has more power to harm you than God’s Power to deliver you.
Only believe and all things are possible. The weapons will come but they will not prosper. Do not give up on God in this battle because he is your only defense from the enemy.
I hear you asking well if God loves me so much why am I going through this? One good thing to note is that you are going through, you not overcome by it. In this life we must take up our cross daily and follow him if we are going to know him in the fellowship of his suffering and the power of his resurrection, there is no crown if there is no cross. We want to hear well done thou good and faithful servant but we do not want to do anything. We want to hear enter into my rest.. rest from what if we don’t want to go through anything? We want to hear these are they that have passed through great tribulation and have washed their robes in blood of the lamb, the problem is we do not want to pass through any tribulation. We want to hear you fought a good fight, you finished your course, you have kept your faith now receive the crown of life eternal. The only problem here is this we don’t want to fight, we don’t want to finish our course we want keep the faith but the problem is if you do not make up your mind to fight for what you believe in you cannot keep your faith.
You cannot receive a honorary crown of life. You must put on the whole armor of God and wage war against the enemy. You are either going let him destroy you or you destroy his work through Christ who lives in you.
Some of the things in you that causing this great apostasy is selfishness. Too selfish to see that it was never about you, lift up your eyes and see that it’s not about you boo. You think you are the only one going through stuff.. you think God must not love you because you are going through stuff.. it’s all a lie from the pit of hell designed to pull you out of the loving arms of the father.
A great divorce took place when Jesus told his followers to eat his flesh and drink his blood. Some turned away from following him because it was too hard to live up to that requirement but I think it’s much harder to live without it. His flesh represents the bread of life and his blood represents spirit of life. In these last days Jesus is still requiring His people to eat his flesh and drink his blood. He saying to take eat this is my body that was broken for you, take drink this is my blood which was shed for you. It is complete payment for your debt of sin. Come unto me and I will give rest. Your power to overcome trials and tribulations is in my finished work of Calvary.
People who renounced their faith in God will find it difficult if not impossible to return to the Lord.
“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, if they fall away, to renew them again repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.” Hebrews 6:4-6
Let me explain, this is not talking about the recurring sins but about a deliberate willful renunciation of your faith in God. The difference is recurring sins are just that, you are tempted and you commit an act of sin. You didn’t renounce God. The enemy tempt you and you yield to it but you didn’t turn away from your faith in God. Remember the scripture says when you sin, you have an advocate with the father, Jesus knew you were going to sin and has already paid for your forgiveness.
The will deliberate renunciation of your faith took place over a period of time. You became the judge of God and decided that Jesus’s work on the cross was useless, you decided there is no God, you decided that there is no Devil, you decided that there is no heaven or hell, you decided to curse God and die. Do you see the huge difference?
I implore you by the mercies of God to stand in your faith. Trust in God in those tough times. Gird yourself in the whole armor of God. Pray, seek His face, fellowship with other believers, love the Lord with all your heart and you will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
I wonder if anyone would know Harriet Tubman’s name if she had escaped and remained a free woman never returning to help her fellow slaves. She had no reason to return to dreaded south, she was not obligated to anyone after all she made the journey to freedom all by herself in the middle of the night. She knew how dangerous it was, she knew if she was caught she was as good as dead.
So I wonder what made her go back? What made her put her life in danger over and over again to help others become free. There was something on the inside of her that caused her to become unsatisfied with her own personal freedom. She was not content until her fellow slaves were free as well.
We are not totally free until we are all free.
