We are at a time in history where the human strength is being tested like never before. If we never needed strength before, we sure do need it now. I am not just talking about physical strength, I’m talking about an inner strength that goes deep beyond our natural abilities. There are many ways to receive this strength but I want to focus on the spoken strength because it is the quickest way to be strengthened. There are many examples in the Bible of people receiving strength through a spoken word. Daniel was one such person who received strength when the angel told him to “be strong.”
“Oh man greatly beloved, fear not! peace be to you; ‘be strong’ yes ‘be strong’! So when he spoke to me I was strengthened. (Daniel 12:19).
I find it really interesting that just mere words were able to strengthen a person in a moment of great terror (Daniel 12: 7). Words are very powerful, you may just be a few words away from all the strength that you need. We are living in a time when great terror has come upon the world because of a relatively unknown virus, wreaking havoc on our way of life and causing death and destruction, yet I hear the Lord saying to His people “be strong this is not the end”.
There is a certain strength that can only come through spoken words, you were not born with it, it is not acquired by what you eat or drink or by something you did, it only comes by what you hear and what you believe. Daniel said the angel told him to be strong and he became strong. It is as simply as that, just receive the word that the messenger of God gives you. Daniel had the same options that we do, he could have asked the angel, How can you tell me to be strong at a time like this? Don’t you not see what is happening in our world? What are you going to do about it? Instead Daniel simple received the strength that was given to him through the words that the angel spoke and he was strengthened.
Strength for the Battle
Sometimes God does not take us out of the battle but He gives us strength to fight. I do not know why God chooses to remove some threats from us while allowing us to walk through others but I do know that He gives strength to the weak. (Isaiah 40:29). I know He will strengthen you to fight every battle that you are facing. The scripture says that His strength is made perfect in your weakness, it means that when you are feeling at your weakest God is at His strongest in you, you are stronger than you think. This virus is an attack of Satan on humanity, but God is with us and He is commanding us to be strong and to wage war against this enemy. This is spiritual warfare and we are going to win but we will have casualties of war, therefore the Lord is commanding us to be strong. The amount of loss we suffer can be limited by the strength we exert in resisting the enemy. We must be strong to resist the enemy.
Daniel was on his face fasting and praying for 21 days, it seems like nothing was happening. What he did not know was that the very moment he set his heart to pray the angel was dispatched with the answer to his prayer but there was opposition to the answer to his prayer. There was a great warfare in the heavenly just to prevent Daniel from receiving the answer to his prayer. I believe that we may not be seeing the answer to our prayer because there is a great warfare going on that we cannot see. We must strengthen our resolve to pray and seek the Lord. Opposition may cause you to feel like God has not heard your prayers but not so, remember that we are fighting against an unseen enemy and there are many aspects of the warfare that we do not understand. Prayer is a powerful weapon that can thwart the plans Satan. When we see nothing happening it’s not time to shrink back in doubt and fear but it’s time to bombard the heavens with prayer. Our prayers have the power to breakthrough every line of the enemy’s defenses. It’s time crossover “no man’s land” the enemy occupied this space long enough. Set your face like flint against the opposition be determine like Daniel to pray until something happens.
The spoken strength that I’m talking about is best demonstrated in Joshua. He was tasked with leading the children of Israel into the promised land filled with giants and by their own report they were like grasshoppers in the sight of the giants that lived in the land. Just the sight of the giants cause the children of Israel to grow faint and weary. Can you imagine being Joshua leading an army of grasshoppers to face giants? Joshua needed the kind of strength that was runs deeper than his natural understanding to lead Israel through the peril of facing giants that were far greater in number than they were and much stronger than they were physically. Joshua knew that natural strength would not be able to give them the victory. He didn’t know how God was going to give them the victory but he made up his mind to trust God. We may not see our way of this battle but we must remain steadfast in our faith trusting in the mighty God of heaven to lead us through this perilous time. We must remain strong.
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
The Lord commanded Joshua to be strong because He knew what Joshua would face upon crossing Jordan. The Lord’s command was not a command that sent Joshua searching for strength so that he could become strong. The moment that God spoke to Joshua and told him to be strong, he was strengthened. God created the heavens and the earth through speech, He spoke everything into existence therefore when He told Joshua to be strong, Joshua became strong. We have no doubt that Joshua possessed supernatural inner strength because the conquest of Canaan was not humanly possible with such a small army.
Just like Joshua, The Lord is commanding us to be strong because He knows what we are facing. You are reading this message because the Lord wants to strengthen you for the days ahead. There are some rough days ahead of us but we will survive we are not all going to die, however we must be strong in order to survive this attack. Do not fear because it takes away your ability to successfully fight the virus. When our minds are occupied with fear we cannot analyze the situation accurately and take the necessary actions to win the war against Coronavirus. You must be strong and courageous, it doesn’t matter what it looks like our God is fighting for us and our enemy is defeated.
The Prince of This World
I find it intriguing that the virus is called Corona which means crown, I had a dream a few months ago about a demon that called himself ‘crown prince’, He quickly enters people’s body and hide inside them. This Coronavirus is acting just like ‘crown prince’ the prince of this world, intimidating people, destroying lives, ravaging the worlds economies, disrupting our way of life, leaving behind nothing but a trail of death and destruction. We all know who ‘the prince of this world’ is because Jesus told us who he was. When Jesus was about to be crucified He told his disciples that “the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. (John 14:30). Jesus was about to go through the most terrible experience of his life at the hands of the ‘prince’ of this world yet the Father did not stop it, instead He strengthened him to face off with the ‘prince’ of this world. You know the story, Jesus conquered the ‘prince of this world’ on Calvary’s cross and emerge as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. If you are in Christ Coronavirus is not your prince, Jesus is your King and He has already defeated death, you therefore do not need to be afraid, your victory is assured. Coronavirus has no hold on you because it has no hold on Jesus. Get up and fight the good fight of faith. Be strong in the Lord and fight like a mighty warrior, because in Christ you a mighty warrior. You cannot get victory without fighting, you cannot be an overcomer if you never overcome nothing, you cannot get a testimony without a test. Jesus could never be King of Kings if He did not endure the cross. The world is under siege to Coronavirus but the Lord is giving you strength to fight and break down this stronghold. Joshua had to fight, he did not receive strength so that he could walk around the gym and flex his muscles, He had to fight.
Joshua was one of the original twelve spies that were sent out to spy out the land of Canaan. (Num 14:6-9). When the people’s heart grew faint, Joshua trusted the Lord to do what He said he would do without regard for the numerous giants that they were facing. Joshua drew strength from knowing that the God that he serve goes before him and fight every battle for him. Joshua drew strength from knowing that the giants are relying on their natural strength but the children of Israel will get the victory by relying on the supernatural strength of God. You cannot rely on your strength, the arm of flesh will fail because you are not fighting a natural enemy. You need the strength of the Lord to win this battle.
Sometimes doubt can cause us to procrastinate and allow the enemy to gain more ground on us than he should. We doubt because the battle plan may not make sense to us and we just cant’ see how God is going to do it. When Joshua faced Jericho, a strong and fortified city, he was not moved by what he saw, he just kept on following the directions of the Lord regardless of the presence of the giants. Can you imagine what it must have been like for Joshua to mount the ark of the covenant on the shoulders of the priests and tell them to march around the wall of Jericho not once but seven times? To the natural eyes that was the most foolish battle plan. Would you do it? What could possible happen as a result of marching around the walls of Jericho? remember they did not read the end of the story like we did. They did not know that the walls would all come crashing down. All the inhabitants of Jericho were watching, there is a lot of ‘what ifs’ that comes to mind. What if the army of Jericho had taken up their arrows and began shooting at them? What if the army of Jericho had open up the gates and engaged them in warfare? What if Jericho had called for their allies to come and help them? What if Joshua didn’t really hear from God? What if Joshua decided that this battle plan makes no earthly sense and decided not to do it? What if nothing happened after they march around the walls? What if the plan failed? Joshua had no guarantee in this battle plan would work, He didn’t know what the outcome would look like but he knew that somehow they would win because the Lords strong and mighty was fighting for them. We need to be like Joshua and trust in the strength of the Lord even though our enemy seems to be greater than us. Obey the Lord even when the battle plan makes no sense. Coronavirus is not greater than the God that we serve. It has been said that if you hold a penny close enough to your eye it will eclipse the sun. Do not let this Coronavirus eclipse the great big God that you serve. Draw strength through prayer, draw strength through His word and be strong and fight back, be determine to win this battle.
Victory preceded by Defeat
Sometimes victory can be preceded by defeat. Joshua faced a devastating defeat in the battle of Ai because there was sin in the camp of Israel. Defeat has a way of making you question what God said, Joshua, as strong as he was bowed down to the ground and question God about this defeat, clearly he was not expecting defeat. God revealed to Joshua that there was sin in the camp. There can be no victory where sin is present because sin is the enemy that we are fighting. When there is sin in the camp the Lord cannot be present. He is a Holy God and by nature cannot be present in sin. Just like oil and water do not mix, sin cannot mix with holiness. When His presence is removed from us, we have no protection from the enemy. It takes great strength to admit sin but if you find yourself fighting a losing battle that you know you should easily win, do what Joshua did, go to God in prayer. Ask him to reveal any hidden sins, repent from it and go back and fight because you can still win. After Joshua took care of the sin issue, he went back and fought against the same enemy and conquered them. (Joshua 7-8). Joshua, knew that losing a battle was not in the plan so he went to God about it. It may look like we are being defeated by Coronavirus but defeat is not apart of the plan of God for your life. Coronavirus maybe the ‘crown prince’ but Jesus is still King if Kings. The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle, He is the King of glory and He is fighting for you.
It amazes me that this virus was gain the amount of momentum that it now has and even more amazing that America seems to be taking the brunt of it. As a nation we may need to examine ourselves, there is no doubt that sin is in all nations of the world but have we turn our backs on God? Is there innocent bloodshed in our nation? Is there perversion in our land? If we are calling upon a Holy God for protection when our hearts are far from him, will He hear us? There is no doubt that we as a nation have done some abominable things but even so the Lord says,
“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:13-14).
Coronavirus is a pestilence and it can be stopped if we repent from our sins. Now I that not everyone will agree with this battle plan but what if it works? What’s there to lose by trying it? Let us humble ourselves before our God, turn away from sin, seek the Lord for forgiveness. He will hear from heaven and heal our nation because His promises are the same yesterday today and forever.
After defeating Ai, Joshua was faced with another seemly impossible battle at Gilgal because five kings combined forces against him and his small grasshopper army. The battle raged on for hours until Joshua commanded the sun to stand still and it did for duration of a whole day. Can you imagine fighting from sun up to sun down? No rest in sight and just when the night was about to fall and you may have had a chance to get rest somewhere in a trench on the battlefield, the commander of your army arrests the sun so that the day was prolonged so that the battle could continue. Joshua was fighting five different nations in one day but he had a strong mind completely focused on victory. It doesn’t matter how intense the battle became Joshua had no intentions of quitting until he completely annihilated his enemies. His divine commander gave him a command to, be strong, so when intense warfare came Joshua pulled on that inner strength and tap into his supernatural resources to fight his warfare. Some battles require great endurance, its not that you are not winning but the battle is very intense. We tend to give up when the battle becomes too long and tedious and that is why you need this supernatural inner strength. You can tap into the supernatural resources of heaven and conquer the enemies that you are facing. It doesn’t matter what enemy you are facing right now, the Lords word to you is to “be strong”.
The Invisible Enemy
We are fighting an invisible enemy and we therefore need invisible strength and strategy. This virus is a formidable force and it seems impossible to overcome but like Joshua, if we put our trust firmly in the Lord, we will be strengthened and God will give us the victory. When the medical professionals and the government are telling us to pray it means they do not see a natural solution in sight. Our only hope is the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, the immortal, invisible only wise God. This virus might be invisible to our naked eyes but it’s not invisible to the almighty God. It is time to turn our eyes upon the Lord, it’s time to be strong in our faith, it’s time to brace ourselves and be strong. King Jehoshaphat was facing a huge army and he told the Lord I do not have the strength to defeat this great army but my eyes are upon you. As he turned his eyes to seek the Lord, he received a strategy and God answered his prayer and his enemies were defeated. 2(Chronicle 20: 12). We must pray that God reveal the hidden things concerning this pandemic and gives us strategies to overcome it. One of the reasons we must pray is, we sometimes suffer unnecessary defeat all because we lack knowledge. Joshua suffered defeat at Ai because he had no knowledge that there was sin in the camp of Israel. When we pray hidden things are revealed and we are better able position ourselves to annihilate our enemies.
You can access your supernatural strength and resources through the word of God spoken and written. A person who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. (I Cor 14:3). Some times God will send a messenger to minister strength to you, it may be a friend, it may be a pastor, it may even be a total stranger and it may be written word of encouragement as long as you receive it you will be strengthened. Don’t take it for granted when someone takes the time to encourage you to ‘be strong’ especially at a time when you need to be strong. The words they speak to you may be the very words that strengthened you. Let us encourage one another to; Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:10-12). Be Strong!!
